KIRKUS has compared the historical novels of Eileen Charbonneau to those of Howard Fast. Charbonneau's fiction for adults includes Waltzing in Ragtime, The Randolph Legacy and Rachel LeMoyne, all published by Macmillan/Forge. The Washington Post said of Waltzing in Ragtime that it "has an almost made-for-TV miniseries sheen to it, even as it grapples with large and complex social issues ..." Waltzing in Ragtime has gone back for multiple printings, and won a Heart of the West Award.
Charbonneau's YA novels include The Ghosts of Stony Clove, In the Time of the Wolves and Honor to the Hills, all published by Macmillan/Tor. Charbonneau's The Ghosts of Stony Clove won both the Golden Medallion Award for Best Young Adult Novel and the New York Public Library Best Book for Young Adults Award. She is also the author of New Street's popular Elements of the Novel.
Charbonneau has also written for The New York Times and co-wrote the award-winning 1990 documentary film Endowment for the Planet, narrated by Christopher Reeve.
