New Street offers a limited number of internship opportunities on a quarterly basis.
These are "distance" rather than "on-site" internships, conducted through collaboration via the Cloud.
College seniors and juniors looking at careers in editorial development, nonfiction writing, and graphic design are invited to apply.
Interns are given complete ownership and responsibility for specfic tasks geared to their interests and abilities.
These tasks include (but not are not limited to) the creation of original prose for publications, editing/refining prose from various New Street authors, designing New Street's paper and eBooks (including cover design, typography and page-layouts), and working with independent producers on the development of audio editions.
Prospective interns must have completed their sophomore year in college and be currently enrolled as a student. Highly desirable requirements are outstanding written and communication skills, a firm grasp of the basic rules of English grammar, and an efficient and organized way of doing things. An interest in nonfiction publishing is preferred. Curiosity and an inclination and ability to ask questions are essential.
We will be happy to coordinate and cooperate with your instituion in developing a "for credit" agenda for your internship once you have put us in contact with the appropriate professor, advisor or department-chair. Should credit not be available, we'll nevertheless always be here to give you a reference for work well done.
Please take a look at our publication lists to get a sense of the nature of our publishing program.
Then, should you think there to be a synergy between what you want to do and what we actually get done, please reach-out.
Ideal contact would include a cover-letter, resume, at least one reference (with telephone number), and a work sample (either a piece of writing or an example of graphic design work, preferably integrating graphics with typography). Please forward these in PDF or jpeg format to this e-mail address with the subject heading: "Internship."
