World-renowned Hemingway scholar Allen Josephs delivers a masterful consideration of the ritual of the corrida and contemplates the essential tragedy of the corrida's high priests: the toreros. In this informed and heartfelt meditation, Josephs goes well beyond standard literary criticism as he ponders such eternal themes as sacrifice, heroism and hero-worship, and the core cultural, spiritual and philosophical underpinnings of the traditional bullfight.
